We provide legal education resources that address key topics related to Free Software, maintain a robust network of experts specializing in these issues, and drive initiatives like REUSE, which offers practical recommendations to simplify Free Software licensing for developers. Additionally, we actively defend software freedom in critical cases, such as the Apple vs. EU Commission litigation concerning the Digital Markets Act.

Free Software thrives on proper licensing, a critical yet often complex aspect of its ecosystem. The Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) is dedicated to educating individuals and organizations about these legal issues, ensuring that Free Software is developed, used, and shared in compliance with established legal frameworks. To promote best practices, the FSFE provides expert licensing consultancy and develops educational tools and resources, such as the Legal Education Day.
The FSFE has also developed REUSE, an set of tools designed to make licensing easier and more transparent for developers by offering practical recommendations. Beyond these tools, FSFE maintains the world's largest network dedicated to legal issues surrounding Free Software. This Legal Network unites a diverse group of experts, including lawyers, in-house corporate counsel, and technically skilled software engineers, creating a neutral space for discussion and collaboration. By sharing knowledge and crafting solutions to real-world legal challenges, the Legal Network plays a pivotal role in advancing the understanding and application of Free Software law across the globe.
In addition to these activities, the FSFE team is actively engaged the Apple vs. EU Commission litigation.
Ana has a background in communication and social sciences. After an internship at FSFE, she continued her career in Berlin and Madrid with various journalistic, communication and production-related experiences, and has been back at FSFE since 2022. There she focuses on communication outreach tasks as well as helping to manage the FSFE community and related events.
