The Shadow Life of Endless Pots

Wait a minute...! There are endlessly rotating pots? But how do they work, and why did neither I nor the internet know about them?

The internet would have you believe that potentiometers can only ever do one round. If you want endlessly rotating knobs, you'd have to use rotary encoders – they say. However, some rare controllers use endless pots: smooth handling, just the right amount of turning resistance, analogue and therefore high resolution.
I'll show you how they work, what to buy, how to read them, and why they're worth knowing.
